LEE HOI HAR, SALLY

Lee Hoi Har (Sally) is a Malaysian contemporary artist whose practice explores memory, cultural identity, and human connection. Drawing inspiration from her personal experiences and the rich heritage of Baba-Nyonya culture, her works convey intimate narratives with a balance of simplicity, expressive brushwork, and vibrant color. Working primarily in oil, Lee also engages with Chinese ink, watercolor, and mixed media, developing a versatile visual language that bridges tradition and contemporary expression. This cross-disciplinary approach allows her to explore texture, form, and emotion, creating works that resonate with depth and warmth. Her paintings often center on familial bonds and intergenerational relationships, while also embracing the natural world as a space of reflection and emotional resonance. Nature is not merely depicted but interwoven with human experience, memory, and identity, forming compositions that are both personal and universally relatable. Lee’s works have been featured in China in the World and recognized internationally, including Gold Awards at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum in 2023 and 2025. Exhibited widely across Asia, her works are collected by the former Governor of Penang, private collectors, and galleries worldwide. Through her art, Sally Lee Hoi Har creates narratives that invite contemplation, connecting viewers to a shared sense of culture, memory, and emotional belonging.
